Dr Gary Ackerman

Gary Ackerman, MD is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.  He completed his undergraduate studies, graduating cum laude, from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. He earned his medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY, where he was admitted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Ackerman served his internship at Mount Sinai Hospital, then completed a combined residency in Orthopaedic Surgery Training through Harvard University at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and stayed to complete additional fellowship training in Sports Medicine. During his fellowship, Dr. Ackerman assisted in the care of Harvard University athletes, and also held a teaching appointment with Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Ackerman was a team physician for the NCAA Championship Harvard Hockey Team in 1989. Dr. Ackerman has been in active practice in orthopaedic surgery in Palm Beach County since 1989.

His personal interest in athletics, and subsequent interest in treating sports injuries, include a year as captain of the Harvard Varsity Basketball team in 1977-78. Dr. Ackerman currently enjoys tennis, basketball and the great outdoors.  In providing leading edge treatment to both professional and amateur athletes, Dr. Ackerman calls upon his proficiency in performing minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, cartilage restoration surgery, and total joint reconstructions.  Dr. Ackerman is the team physician for the United States Tennis Association.  He is affiliated with Jupiter Medical Center and Northpoint Surgery & Laser Center and  serves as a manuscript reviewer for the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine. He presently serves as the Houston Astros Spring Training Physician and Minor League Physician for the West Palm Beach Houston Astros Organization.
