PATELLOFEMORAL DISORDERS OF THE KNEE

The front of the knee comprises a joint between the kneecap (the patella) and the femur (the trochlea). This joint can develop problems ranging from functional instability, to pain and discomfort from an acute injury, to the chronic pain of arthritis, caused by a loss of cartilage in the knee joint.

At Palm Beach Sports Medicine, Dr. Matthew Stiebel has taken specialized training in the surgical repair and treatment of patellofemoral injuries. A recognized expert in the field, he has published articles on ligament reconstruction and lectured overseas to the International Patellofemoral Study Group.

Dr. Stiebel performs surgeries ranging from osteotomies (reshaping of bones) to patellofemoral joint replacement, and also teaches these techniques through the Arthroscopy Association of North America
